The Cancer Center of East Alabama also provides hematology/oncology services, and has a board-certified hematology/oncology physician on its medical staff.

Hematology is the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of blood diseases (hematology) and cancer (oncology). Hematology-oncology includes such diseases as iron deficiency anemia, thalassemias, leukemias and lymphomas.

Services provided include:

• Chemotherapy and biologic therapy for hematological disorders
• Diagnosis and treatment of clotting disorders
• IV iron infusion for patients who cannot tolerate or respond to oral iron
• Treatment for most forms of leukemia and lymphoma
• Assistance with referrals to other hospitals/cancer centers when necessary
