Yolanda Fears is not afraid, although she has every right to be. Eighteen years ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer—the first in her family. With the help of EAMC, she fought it and survived. Then in 2002, she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Again, she turned to the Cancer Center at EAMC.

“People around me—my friends and family—urged me to look for care outside the community. But I trusted EAMC,” explains Yolanda. “They have the perfect blend of people. They talked me through the treatment options, showed me everything in terms of my cancer and how best to treat it, and let me sleep on it before I made any decisions. I was surprised by how understanding yet serious they were.”

It has been almost 10 years and Yolanda is feeling great. And, she has an enthusiastic appreciation for the care she received at EAMC. “It’s just so reassuring to know that we have a Cancer Center that’s close to home, staffed by compassionate people with cutting-edge knowledge and technology, all working together to help people in our community. It can be done here. There’s no need to go anywhere else.”
